La educación ambiental es la conciencia, el conocimiento, el entendimiento, las actitudes, las habilidades y por supuesto la participación. La educación ambiental no es un asignatura. La educación ambiental es un principio que debe impregnar a cualquier centro educativo, pero al mismo tiempo es el principio que debe impregnar a cualquier administración en su gestión de cara a los ciudadanos.
Miles de hombres y mujeres se asomaban cada noche a la televisión para que uno de los padres de la educación ambiental en este país mostrara a los ciudadanos la importancia conocer nuestro ecosistema.
Este no es el problema de ellos, este es nuestro compromiso.
A lo largo de los años, la educación ambiental se ha impuesto como un recurso importante dentro de las aulas, o como una fuente de acciones y actividades que los ciudadanos realizan por medio de unos guías que se presentan en el transcurso de los planteamientos educativos.
Llega el momento de utilizar el aula más importante que se encuentra en la escuela, que es la propia naturaleza. Aún me acuerdo de una maestra jubilada que explicaba con esmero y detalle las clases que realizaba con sus escolares, en una escuela unitaria todos los viernes en la colina cercana a su pequeño colegio. El valor de la naturales es inmenso, y por supuesto es también una maestra de la educación ambiental que debemos aprovechar.
La conciencia que los escolares y los ciudadanos obtienen hacen que sean agentes vitales de la educación ambiental. Hace posible que se pueda transformar el planeta y que los desastres que nos asolen sean menores, y que nuestra conciencia aumente un poco más para que dejemos una herencia mucho mejor.
La iniciativa que realiza la empresa Ecoembes por medio de NATURALIZA es un ejemplo vivo de la fuerza que tiene la educación ambiental para transformar el mundo.
